Can’t tame a free spirit

There once was a beer brewing monk who many felt was troubled...

monk who many felt was troubled… His free spirit and enthusiasm set him apart from the other monks.  He had an energy about him, a true passion for brewing that simply bewildered his peers.

The towns folk who knew him applauded his dedication; they admired his passion and purpose. They looked and saw a man who wasn’t afraid to do his own thing.  He marched to a different drummer.  Followed his own star. He lived life on his terms, his way, proving to those around him that

Can’t Tame a Free Spirit.

In 2016, the Troubled Monk Brewery won a Silver Medal for the Open Road Brown Ale in the American Brown Ale Category!

Saisons were conceived in the farmhouses of Belgium to quench the thirst of those who toiled in the fields. Our Homesteader Saison is brewed as a tribute to all the homesteaders who cleared the trees, tilled the soil and managed to survive without fast food, ice machines or AC.

While it might be hard for us to relate to the homesteader's way of life, we can all relate to the refreshing taste of a crisp, cool beer after a hot summer's day.

So put down that pitchfork, spit out that straw and wipe the sweat off your brow. Reward yourself for the hard work that you do.

PeskyPig label.png

Pesky PIg Pale Ale is named after Francis the Pig who stole the hearts of carnivores and vegetarians alike in the summer of 1990. This 220 pound porker evaded his fate by jumping a wall, navigating the slaughterhouse and escaping into Red Deer's parkland. It was 5 months before this feral fugitive was finally captured. Raise a glass to the little piggy that never went to market. Rejoice that he left these pastures on his own terms; proving you can't tame a free spirit.

What customers are saying ...

Awsome little brew house! In the middle of RedDeer easy acess off Taylor drive. Real interesting group of beers to try out. My fave is the golden geitz ale . Also some tasty snacks from local suppliers. Comfortable patio to sit out on. The staff are friendly and will answer any beer questions you may have. Very unique tasting beer compared to other micro brews.

Always great chatting with the gentleman of Troubled Monk. I had the opportunity to sample some ginger ale this Sunday past and it was really good. Taste was 10/10. It actually tasted like real ginger, unlike any of the main stream ginger ales. But wasn’t super sweet either, which is nice. Also bought a growler of Pesky Pig, my favorite. Thanks guys for the drinks!

I /may/ be biased because one of my favorite people is the brewmaster here, but I think Troubled Monk is making splendid beers. And if you want an unbiased proof: the beer is flying out the door so fast they don’t even have time to put it in cans. People love it. All the best to Troubled Monk!

Your Monk Porter finished in a rum cask is amazing! Please make it a regular vs a seasonal.
